WUMC Scholarship Program

The Westbury United Methodist Church (WUMC), through the program and activities of its Scholarship Committee, makes annual awards to the graduating High School students of the Church. The purpose of the scholarship awards program is to identify and recognize the students for their:

(1) Good character
(2) Willingness to serve
(3) Consistent participation in the programs and ministries of the church
(4) Academic promise or merit.

The program provides two awards:

I. The Homer K. Rhinesmith (HKR) Award

The HKR Award is named for Rev. Homer K. Rhinesmith who was an outstanding leader and pastor of the Church from 1941 to 1980. It is a recognition award given to the graduating High School student who stands out, above the rest, for his/her overall qualities of Christian character, participation and service.

II. The WUMC Scholarship Award

The WUMC scholarship provides a monetary award to each graduating High School student as a way to assist them with the financial cost of their higher education, advanced training and or other vocational pursuits.

Applications are distributed on May 1 and the completed applications are submitted to the Church Office by May 31, unless otherwise indicated.

In June, the awards are announced and the students are honored at a special Sunday Service called Baccalaureate Sunday.
